Obituary of Evelyn Lund Deck

Evelyn was born September 8, 1923 in Suquamish, Washington to parents, Signe and Edwin Lund. She passed away July 14, 2013 in Rainier, Washington at age 89. Evelyn graduated valedictorian of the Class of 1941 from North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo. After high school, she attended Washington State University and graduated in 1945 with a degree in journalism and a minor in education. After several jobs in radio from Alaska to Seattle, she purchased and managed The Oregon Trail in Tumwater. Later, working a few different positions for the Court of Appeals and the State of Washington, Evelyn met her last husband, Errett Deck. They married in 1980 and enjoyed 33 years together; he preceded her in death on May 8, 2013. They spent their retirement years traveling all over the world, exploring various cultures and having numerous adventures. Evelyn returned to her parents’ hometowns in Norway many times over the years and enjoyed visiting her many Norwegian relatives. Evelyn was a charter member of the Sons of Norway, Hovedstad Lodge 94, and continued to be active in the group as long as she was able, even serving as the secretary several terms. Evelyn and Errett were also long-time members of the Opera Guild; they enjoyed many performances together. She was an avid supporter of the Olympia Symphony and Harlequin Productions. A strong believer of education, she leaves behind an endowed scholarship in Liberal Arts at Washington State University. Evelyn is survived by her son, Dan English (Brenna); stepdaughter, Peggy Dobbs (Bruce); stepson, David Deck (Pam); nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Please leave memories of Evelyn or condolences for the family in the Guestbook below.
