Whitey was my Uncle and simply for a period of ten years was a perfect mentor He built my step father’s house and had us moving lumber from one side to the other as he worked. The pay was nil, but Whitey cooked some steaks in the fireplace with vine maple and that was the best steak I have ever eaten to this day. He backed us all up in sports at MHS, helped with repairs on cars and such, and thaught me how to make simple gaskets which I passed along to my son. Every time I make one I think of Whitey. A good man and a fine uncle.

To all the family I am so sorry for your loss. Whitey was an awesome person. I worked with him at the paper mill and enjoyed learning from him on the job. He was always willing to teach and not afraid to let the younger people try new things.
My fondest memory is of the time we drove out to Westport and hand picked 300 crab in the hold of a crab boat and because he was driving I wouldn’t let him drink his beer which didn’t set well with him. Then we spent 24hrs. cooking all the crab in Bud Perrin’s garage because it had to be done while they were alive.. Whitey was a riot to be around and you could count on having a good time because he was always up to something. R.I.P. my friend.

Bob & I have very fond memories of Gary for some reason we never called him Whitey. In 1975 we were getting ready for a trip to Florida and were installing a C B radio in our truck and were testing it when a big booming voice said where are you located I can help you. In just a minute he was beside our truck and got us working. When we got home he stopped by and we became friends with him and his family. We went to Reno on camping trips to C B breaks our kids weddings and so much more. He was a great friend and will be so missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Whitey’s passing. We all knew it was coming but hoped against hope that it would not happen for quite some time. The last time I talked to him he said this is probably it. We won’t see each other again.
Les and I met him at the trailer park in AZ Les and he bonded immediately and we all 3 became fast friends. We spent lots of time together and always had a great time. He even surprised us by walking into our house in Nevada one time. He just loved to surprise someone. We golfed together as long as he and Les could walk. He was a very good golfer and I learned a few things from him. Your tribute to your father online is right on. You really described him to a tee. I will miss him greatly and there will be a big hole in my social life in Mesa as I think of him often. Know that there will be many friends, myself included, who will be thinking of your family and your father often. Maybe he and Les are already sharing cocktails together. Loving thoughts to you. We met Whitey at the Sun Life RV Resort in Mesa, Arizona. He was a good friend to everyone who met him as long as they weren’t an asshole! He had no time for those types! We loved him and are going to miss his late night visits on his golfcart with his friend Helen! Whitey was a bit of an institution at Sun Life and he will be remembered by many folks here for years to come. RIP dear Whitey! Bob and Linda MacDonald.
