Obituary of Helen Olena Carroll

Helen, 93 years old, passed away at her home at The Sequoia Assisted Living Community in Olympia, Washington on the morning of Monday, May 19, 2014. She was born on September 30, 1920, to William Arthur Renfro and Cora Alma (Dillard) Renfro, in Boise, Idaho. She lived in several states growing up, including Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and California from 1932 to 1978. In 1930, Helen quit school to help her family during the Depression. In April 1938, Helen married the love of her life, Leonard R. Carroll, in Santa Ana, California. Together, they raised two daughters. Helen worked as a Clerk Supervisor for Farmers Insurance Company from December 1959 to March 1964. She also worked as a draftsman, drawing building plans for her husband to build and sell in California. While in Van Nuys, California, she was the Women’s Club President of the Unity Church. Helen loved to sew. She also enjoyed miniatures, gardening, and reading. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Her family was especially important to her. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn V. Long and Maureen L (Randall) Isaman of Olympia, Washington; a brother, Merlin LaVere Renfro of Joshua Tree, California; a sister, Irene L. Wilson of Cortez, Colorado; her grandchildren, Jacalyn C. Nigh, Christopher L. Nigh (Lisa), Wendy L. (Russell) Martin, and Catherine C. (Brent) Holcombe; and great-grandchildren, Jamie C. Martin, Claire H. Holcombe, and Elizabeth C. Holcombe. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard, her parents, and two sister,s Verna B. Solesbee and Mildred L. Solesbee.
