Obituary of Frederick H. Burkhardt

Frederick H. Burkhardt Frederick H. Burkhardt, 76, passed away from a long-time illness at home in Olympia on April 23, 2013. He was born November 26, 1936 to Robert E. and Flora Bell Burkhardt in Springfield, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1965. After 11 years as a Marine, Fred worked many years in law enforcement in Ohio and Washington states; he also worked security at Providence St. Peter Hospital for 22 years. His extreme professional demeanor earned him the nickname “Smiley.” Fred married Karen Montgomery in Springfield, Ohio on May 8, 1981. He enjoyed country music, travel and yard work, and was a supporter of the USO, VFW, American Legion, and Paralyzed Vets. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Kathy Lee Paterson; granddaughter, Heidi Paschal; and sisters, Mary Looker of Virginia, Sue (Carol) Skiles and Charlene Burkhardt of Ohio, Joyce McCoy and Vicki Burkhardt of Florida.
