Obituary of Joey DeBakker

Joey DeBakker, 37, of Olympia, Washington, passed away on December 30, 2023, in Olympia. Born Johannes Marinus DeBakker on March 26, 1986, in Anchorage, Alaska, he was known to his loved ones as "Joey." He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.

 

Joey is survived by his parents, Johannes and Arline DeBakker of Olympia; and his siblings, Wendy Robinson (Steve), Chrissy Hoffman (Mike), Gerilynn Mello (Michael), and Odd DeBakker (Alison). He also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews, Candra, Darin, Nick, Ava, Amanda, KC, Tommy, Nikita, Taytum, Alex, Kendall, Holland, Autumn, Grace, Wesley, Stella and Atigun; along with many extended family members and close friends.

 

Joey's love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies, which included spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed exploring nature and creating lasting memories.

 

Joey pursued higher education at Saint Martin's University, where he developed a passion for learning and personal growth. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in June 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was enrolled in the Master’s Program and planned to graduate in the Spring of 2024.

 

A Celebration of Life will be planned in the spring to honor Joey's memory. Details of the event will be announced by family.
