Obituary of Gary Scott Tingley

Gary Scott Tingley passed away peacefully in his bed on the evening of December 27, 2023. Gary loved living among the redwood trees in California, being a handyman, southwestern artwork, fine wine, smooth tequila, and a variety of music. He also enjoyed cooking and eating great food, a good joke, and traveling to faraway places while making new friends along the way.

Most of all, he loved his family. He was a wonderful son, brother, dad, uncle, and grandfather. He was a hero to many and was only a phone call away when needed. He would lovingly take the time to listen, give good sound advice, and always made sure you knew he cared about you. He innately knew how to make a person laugh and appreciated wit, intellect, and a stimulating conversation.

He will be greatly missed by those he left behind, including his brother, Mike and Gabe Tingley; his sister, Joan Richards; his nephews, Gary Tingley and Matthew (Tanya) Tingley; his daughters by marriage, Cathey and Matthew Barnett and Lori and Mickey Bitters; grandchildren, Johnathan and Chasity Renfro, Micah and Thea Renfro, Samantha and Justin Imhoff; and eight great-grandchildren.

“We all had different relationships with Gary but what we have in common is we all loved him.” --Mike Tingley

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Bud” and Betty Tingley; his brother, James “Jim” Sturgis; and his twin brother, Larry Tingley. Gary was the son of Harold Nelson “Bud” Tingley, Jr., son of Harold Nelson Tingley, son of Nelson Eugene Tingley and Edith Gertrude Gage Tingley.
