Obituary of David Arthur Boren
David Arthur Boren, 68, died at Seattle Harborview Hospital on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born on October 12, 1954, in Olympia, Washington, to Leonard D. Boren and Leona J. Boren.
David loved all sports, including bowling, golf, baseball, softball, football, and basketball. He was a member of the Amateur Softball Association and the United States Slowpitch Association, where he received many awards and honors during his more than 20 years of accomplishments. He also loved playing softball events throughout Thurston County and was an official of the game. David loved the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, University of Washington Huskies, and local sports teams.
David, at a young age, was a collector of hundreds of comic books and would read them over and over.
He graduated from St. Martins High School in 1972 and from St. Martins College in 1977, where he was a cheerleader and member of the track team.
David became employed at St. Martins Food Service for more than 25 years, where he also met his loving wife, Betty Jean Standiford McGregor. They married on February 17, 1996, and lived in Olympia, Washington, prior to his death.
He is survived by his wife; stepdaughters, Tracy McGregor-Wilkie (Chris), Nancy McGregor (Greg Young), and Bobbie McGregor; step-grandchildren, Anthony Lorenzo, Judy Young, Morgan and Dylan Deer. Other survivors are his brothers and sisters, Helen, John, Jim, Tom, Carol, Randy, Roberta, and Bill Acker; numerous nieces and nephews; great-grand nieces and nephews; and in-laws. He was preceded in death by family members, William Boren (Pearl), Evelyn Boren Tubbs (Frank), Pataricia Johanson (Eric), Janice Suver (Pete), and Charles Acker.
David will be remembered mostly for his kindness, humorous nature, caring, intelligence, and one-liner jokes at the toughest of times. He will be greatly missed.
On October 12, 2023 (his birthday), there will be a service at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 812 Bowker St. SE, Lacey, WA 98503. A reception will follow in Hallen Hall.
