Obituary of Bonnie Anna Brown

Bonnie Anna Brown passed away September 30, 2023, in Lacey, Washington, her home of 39 years.  She was born September 27, 1934, to Daniel Leland and Mona (Beckstead) Layne in Lewiston, Utah.

Bonnie graduated from Logan High School in Logan, Utah.  She married Edward Merl Brown on November 21, 1952. Together they raised nine children. After more than 66 years of marriage, Merl passed away April 1, 2019. Through the years, Bonnie was a homemaker, caregiver, and medical transcriptionist.  She was actively engaged as a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She had many hobbies and interests.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, writing, knitting, crocheting, and music. She was an accomplished pianist and organist who played for her church as well as teaching private lessons to many of her grandchildren and others. She loved serving others, holding babies, and caring for kitties. She was an avid collector of funny and inspirational stories and poems and often shared them with loved ones. She enjoyed beach combing, going on Sunday drives, and making memories with family. She knew how to make a lot out of a little.

One of Bonnie’s granddaughters describes her this way: “Bonnie loved the piano and her dangly earrings always matched her shirt. She loved to hold your hand and look into your eyes when you spoke to her. She had the most beautiful sparkly eyes, but if you ever told her so, she would cross them and playfully stick her tongue out at you. Bonnie lived her life with love in her heart, cookies in the oven, and a funny little story on the tip of her tongue. The love that she gave her family and her friends will forever be treasured because being loved by Bonnie is the specialist feeling in the world.”

She is survived by her five sons, Michael Dean Brown, James Cordell Brown, Loren Scott Brown, Dallon Layne Brown, and Brian Keith Brown; her four daughters, Mary Katherine McCarter, Barbara Elyn Moss, Mona Lee Bates, and Julie Anna Barclay; and best of all, 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband and parents, as well as six siblings.

Funeral service will be held Friday, October 13, 2023, 11:00 a.m., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Olympia Stake Center, 600 Overhulse Road NW, Olympia, WA 98502.
