Elizabeth Cody

Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Cody

Elizabeth Marie Cody, 92, passed away September 29, 2023, in Olympia, Washington.  She was born August 21, 1931, to James and Bertha Havens in Olympia and raised in Yelm, Washington, graduating as Valedictorian of Yelm High School in 1947 at age 16.

She “officially” married Dave Cody on November 13, 1948, after eloping three months earlier in August.  They had a lifelong love and she missed him terribly after his death on August 10, 2005.

Professionally, she was Corporations Division Manager for the Washington Secretary of State until 1966.  She then became co-owner of Alpine Painting Inc. until about 1995.

Elizabeth’s faith in God was very important to her, along with family and friends.  She was a wonderful cook and so many family gatherings centered around delicious food.  She was a determined shopper and loved to collect pretties.  She always looked for an excuse to give a gift.  She loved holidays and birthdays, making them special for each person. She was an avid reader and enjoyed different genres, often several at a time.  In her later years, she enjoyed coloring with her gel pens, which kept her busy for hours.

She is survived by daughters, Deanne Lawrence (Larry), Dawn Cody, Kim Robinson, and Star Brown (Dave); 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  She was predeceased by her husband, David J. Cody; parents, James and Bertha Havens; and brother, John Havens Sr.

Services will be held Monday, October 9, 2023, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 5930 Mullen Rd. SE, Lacey, WA 98503.  There will be a viewing at 11:00 a.m., memorial service at 11:30 a.m., followed by interment at Pioneer Cemetery, and then a reception at Woodlawn.
