Obituary of Brent Anthony Hancock

Brent Anthony Hancock died on September 9, 2023, at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital in Yakima, Washington, at the age of 43.

Brent was born on April 4, 1980, in Redmond, Washington, to Janele and Mike Hancock.  He was raised primarily in Poulsbo, Washington, but spent two years working as a hunting and fishing guide in Augusta, Montana.  Brent attended North Kitsap schools and graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1998.

Brent worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for nearly 20 years. He was well respected because of his great worth ethic and honesty.

Brent married Sarah Rice in Poulsbo on August 19, 2006, in Sarah’s parents’ yard. Two of his childhood friends stood by him that day, Mike Johnston and Andy Watland. Sarah and Brent celebrated 17 years of marriage by going on the trip to Montana and Idaho. They enjoyed camping and fishing together and spent several days at the end of their trip with their good friends, Trina and Niles Jokela.  Brent and Sarah have two children, Brandon Michael and Kailee Marta Hancock, whom he loved very much.

Brent had so many great attributes. His smile and laugh were infectious; he would take his shirt off his back for anyone; he wasn’t afraid of getting dirty; he jumped into adventures headfirst and would be the first to laugh if things took a wrong turn. He treasured simple moments in life and found happiness in them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening.

Brent is survived by his wife, Sarah; two children, Brandon and Kailee; parents, Janele and Mike Hancock; his brother, Kevin (Erin) Hancock; his aunt, Kathy (Mickey) Rounds; his mother-in-law, Cindy Rice; his brother-in-law, Shawn Rice; his sister-in-law, Melissa (Matt) Cleverley; and four nephews, Nolan and Carson Hancock, and Wylee and Calvin Rice. Brent was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Mary Hancock; his maternal grandparents, Clifford and Leona Geer; and his father-in-law, Mike Rice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, 2:30 p.m. at NewLife Training Center, 9923 Poplars Avenue NW, Silverdale, WA 98383.  Brent’s cousin, Leland Rounds, will officiate the celebration.
