Obituary of Nellie Jo Walker Dintelman

Nellie Jo Walker Dintelman passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023, at her home in Auburn, Washington. She was born on March 15, 1929, in Ringling, Oklahoma, a small town named after the founder of the Ringling Brothers Circus. She was the daughter of William “Bill” and Carrie (Jackson) Walker.

Jo completed her high school education, attended business college in Lubbock, Texas, and then moved to Andrews, Texas, where she met her soulmate, Robert Charles Dintelman. They tied the knot in 1948 and started their family. In 1957, they relocated to Farmington, New Mexico, where Jo worked for Seaboard Finance and later for the City of Farmington. She also helped her husband with their well service business.

Jo and Robert loved traveling and exploring new places with their RV. They spent many summers in Echo Basin, Colorado, and winters in various Arizona locations. They settled down in Yuma, Arizona, in 2005 to enjoy the warm weather and their retirement. Jo was widowed in 2016 when Robert passed away. She moved to Auburn, Washington, later that year to be closer to her son, Roy, and his family.

Jo was a passionate dancer and a talented teacher. She taught line dancing for several years and enjoyed square dancing with Robert. She was a devout Christian and an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Farmington, New Mexico, and the Foothills Southern Baptist Church in Yuma, Arizona. She volunteered for many church activities, such as teaching Sunday School, organizing Vacation Bible School and hosting events. Jo loved to pray, and God loved to answer her prayers, most of which were for her family that God graciously gave her. All of her heart and energy were tuned to the love and caring for them.

Jo is survived by her sons, Robert L. Dintelman (Sue) and Roy L. Dintelman (MaryAnn); six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of life will be held on May 20.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to a missionary organization such as Lottie Moon or Annie Armstrong.

Jo finished the race, she kept the faith, and is now free to dance like there is no tomorrow.

1 Corinthians 2:9 New King James Version
 But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
