Marlene Permann

Obituary of Marlene Permann

Marlene (Lee) Permann, age 82, met her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2023, in Lacey, Washington. She was born May 21, 1940, in Shelton, Washington. She grew up in Shelton and lived in Olympia, Washington, for 57 years.  The last 3.5 years, she lived in Lacey at Panorama Convalescent & Rehabilitation.

Marlene attended Shelton schools until she was a sophomore in high school and graduated from Olympia High School in 1959.  In 1960, she graduated from St. Peter Hospital Nursing School in Olympia with her License Practical Nursing Degree.

Marlene Lee and Donald Permann were married on May 14, 1960, at the Olympia Assembly of God Church on Olympia and Pear Streets, now known as Evergreen Christian Community Church on Black Lake Boulevard, where they have been church members.

Professionally, Marlene was a labor and delivery nurse at St. Peter Hospital. She loved being a nurse and taking care of people. She considered her nursing career one of her greatest achievements.  Later in her work life, Marlene thoroughly enjoyed owning and operating Fox’s Limited, a women’s consignment clothing store in downtown Olympia. She eventually moved the business to Lacey.

Marlene was a loving, giving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had the “gift of gab,” and was easy going, and friendly. She enjoyed humor, and checking the Sunday Olympian obituaries to see if she was in it. We are sure she enjoyed the April 9 paper.

Marlene loved being a mom and helping others. She was a children’s Sunday school teacher, and an assistant Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed gospel music, and planning and hosting parties for family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and arts and crafts.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Permann; son, Jeff (Tammy) Permann; daughter, Kim (Ron) Graver; four granddaughters; five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; and brother, Dick (Patti) Lee.  She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Marjorie Lee; and brother, Tom Lee.

Services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Christian Community Church, North Auditorium, 1000 Black Lake Blvd., Olympia, WA 98502.

Words Marlene wanted to share from her experiences:

“Be kind, loving and caring, and don’t sweat the small stuff.”
