Obituary of Stephen Emil Perencevic

Born Stephen Emil Perencevic on September 22, 1965, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Sonny passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington, due to complications of a brain injury incurred in a motorcycle accident on September 4, 2008.  Sonny resided his last four years at Shelton Health and Rehab.

While growing up in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Sonny enjoyed and excelled in both youth baseball and football.

Throughout life, Sonny remained a voracious reader, enjoying and satisfying his ongoing quest for knowledge. His talents also included writing and drawing.

Sonny maintained a connection to the beliefs and spirituality of the Native American teachings.

An avid motorcycle rider, Sonny loved to hit the road and ride, sharing this joy with friends and family.

Prior to his accident, Sonny fought wildfires in Washington state, receiving a commendation from Black Hills Fire District attesting to his bravery, team work and dedication.

 Missing Sonny are his mother, Loretta Pennington, who was holding his hand as he passed; his sister, Lorrie Perencevic; his niece, Sam Hayden of Anchorage, Alaska, her husband, James, and their children Cody, Calen, Kalysta and Izabella; niece, Nattie Peck of Hawaii; aunt and uncle, Bill and Tracy Osterhout, and their children, Drew and Megan; his daughter, Clarissa Heller, husband, John, and their children, Lilyana, Chance, Colton, Caine, and Cayson; and his son, Tom Howard; and grandson, Tommy Howard.

Thank you to Shelton Health and Rehab for providing a safe and genuinely caring environment for Sonny over the past four years, and to Good Samaritan Hospital for the outstanding comfort care provided.

Family chooses a private farewell.

After 13 1/2 years confined to being immobile and silent, Sonny is free to fly like the Eagle he loves and drum and chant with the Spirits.
