Obituary of Bernice Anita Goodwin

Bernice Anita Goodwin, 90, passed away April 19, 2022, at her home in Lacey, Washington, where she resided for 25 years.  She was born September 14, 1931, to Joseph E. Dore and Anna Angus McCann-Dore in Everett, Washington.  

 

Bernice graduated from Everett High School in 1949, Centralia Community College in 1972 with an Associate Degree in Social Work, and the University of Washington in 1976 with a BA and BS in Social Work.  She married James P. Goodwin on April 14, 1979, in Olympia, Washington.

 

Professionally, Bernice worked at a local bakery (1963), Washington State DSHS as a social worker (1999), and Franciscan Health Care as a caseworker for hospice (2000-2005).

 

She was happy, cheerful, helpful, friendly, and very intelligent.  She always gave good advice.  Bernice loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling, boating, and visiting with family and friends.  She loved hosting and going to family gatherings and dinners, and cherished time with her children and grandchildren.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey.

 

Bernice is survived by her husband, James P. Goodwin; sons, Stephen (Jodi) Scott of Olympia, and Bradley (Anne) Scott of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; daughters, Beth A. Smith of South Jordan, Utah, Pamela (Ric) Rozum of Aguila, Arizona, and Denise (Emery) Peterson of Lacey, Washington; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.  She is predeceased by her son, Daniel Scott.

 

Services will be held on May 13, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 812 Bowker St. SE, Lacey, Washington 98503.

 

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Women’s Auxiliary Guild or Providence Hospice of Thurston County.
