Obituary of Ann G. Nielsen

Ann G. Nielsen passed away February 11, 2022, in Olympia, Washington.  She was born September 5, 1941, to Michael and Jean (Gillies) Costley in Glasgow, Scotland.  Over the years, she also lived in Toronto, Canada, Santa Monica, California, and the Washington cities of Port Angeles and Ellensburg.

 

Ann graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Toronto, and attended UCLA, Santa Monica Community College, Peninsula Community College, and South Puget Sound Community College.

 

Ann married Roger Nielsen on February 13, 1965, in Santa Monica, and the family relocated to Washington State in1982.  She worked for the State of Washington for 24 years, was an Accounting Analyst at Peninsula Community College and Central Washington University, was the ASB Accounting Manager at Santa Monica High School, and also held various positions with IBM.

 

Ann was an avid reader and a very spiritual person who meditated and attended yoga classes regularly. She loved nature and walks on the beach.  Ann was a member of Readers’ Theater, and volunteered at the Senior Center, the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, the Thurston County Food Bank, and various church events and services.

 

Ann is survived by her husband, Roger Nielsen; son, Michael Nielsen; daughter, Michelle Nielsen; son-in-law, Mark Stoeck; and three grandchildren, Max, Nick and Linus.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Thurston County Food Bank or Interfaith Works.
