Nancy Graybeal

Obituary of Nancy Ann Hahn Graybeal

Nancy Ann Hahn Graybeal, age 70, passed away due to cancer on January 22, 2022, in Olympia, Washington. She was born December 6, 1951, to William E. and Maryann Hahn in Mason City, Iowa.

Nancy was a 1970 graduate of Iowa City High School.  She married her high school sweetheart, Gary G. Graybeal, on September 19, 1970, in Iowa City, Iowa. Professionally, she owned Canvas Works, a fabric store and textiles creation space in Olympia from 1979 to 2017.

Nancy was a motivated individual who relied on herself and her skills to create a beautiful life.  Her legacy will live on through the community in which she shared her skills and inspired others to pursue their passions.  Nancy loved helping others discover their own talents through sewing and knitting.  She was a maker, gardener, seamstress, knitter, basket weaver, potter, baker, wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a “leader by doing” to all. She gave freely of herself and of her knowledge, making an impact on countless lives.

Nancy forged a path for her family to travel together. Early in their marriage, Nancy and Gary built their family home and raspberry farm on which they lived together for the next 46 years. Nancy’s most cherished piece of life was her family. The business that she created allowed for her husband, children and grandchildren the opportunity to work together in the family business until 2017. The impact she had on those she loved has created the strength of family that will last for generations.

She is survived by her husband, Gary G. Graybeal; daughters, Lia Graybeal Miller, and husband, Danny Miller, and Amy Graybeal Chartrey, and husband, Brandon Chartrey; granddaughters, Anna Chartrey and Jesy Chartrey; and brother, Mike Hahn, his wife, Julie Hahn.  She was predeceased by her parents; and grandparents, Joseph Ingham and Genevieve Mason Ingham.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at “The Meeting House at Priest Point,” located at 3201 Boston Harbor Rd NE, Olympia, WA 98506.
