Ken was my friend, he and I worked on hundreds of games together over the years. The loss of his knowledge of pinballs and arcade games in general will leave a great void in our world, he had a elephant memory in this field that seldom will anyone ever achieve, he was a savant, he was the best. Safe travels my friend, you are greatly missed.

Ken was a true asset to the arcade game collector community. His invaluable advice and knowledge helped many of us in our repairs of vintage and obscure monitors. I have many notes in my "troubleshooting book" that are postings or notes drafted by Ken which he so wisely documented. I shared my limited knowledge with him and directly communicated with him several times on the forums but never got to know Ken in person. He seemed a truly humble person. He will be missed for his contributions and timely postings. Rest in Peace Ken. I hope they have the Stooges on 24/7 in Heaven for you.

I shared Ken's love of both pinball and drive-in movie theatre history/preservation. I've known him across multiple forums online related to both of those topics, and will be sad to not see new posts with his trademark photo. Ken was a wealth of knowledge and his repair tips have helped so many and will live on for years to come as a legacy to Ken and the kind, selfless person he was. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

We too loved visiting Ken at the shop. We'd email most weeks and whenever Ken had something he wanted to show off, we'd head down. He helped us with all sorts of fixes and mods to our pinball machines, always with a smile. You can see how proud he was of his work in this photo.
We'll surely attend the celebration of life, if it's open to casual friends like us.

I love the photo! Definitely captures his personality. You are very welcome to attend the celebration of his life. I haven't set a date for it yet, but it will be in the Spring. Please call me at (360) 491-4459 and let me know the best way to reach you so I can let you know the date. (I gotta get thru cleaning out his apartment, my daughter's upcoming surgery, and the holidays first). Marie Layton Holts, Ken's sister

I was one of the many people that Ken helped with advice on how to repair classic arcade games. I have been in that hobby for about 20 years, and Ken was there on various internet forums from day 1. While he and I rarely had occasion to chat directly, there are so many times that I searched for the answer to a problem and found a discussion where Ken had already helped someone else with the same issue. When Ken had something to say, everyone knew you should listen.
He was known throughout the hobby as kind, generous, and skilled... I've never seen an unkind word about him, or from him.
Ken probably wouldn't have remembered me, but I and countless others will remember and miss him. Our community has suffered a great loss with his passing. I can only offer my sincere condolences to Ken's family and friends.

I think Ken would remember you! He seemed to have an excellent memory.
Thank you for your kind words. It has been hard to accept that he is gone. I am grateful to learn that he has quite a legacy that will live on in various internet forums. I, and the rest of the family, had no idea how much he impacted so many people by sharing his knowledge. Marie Layton Holts, Ken's sister

I only knew Ken for a few years meeting him at Olympia Rare Coins. He always had a mischievous smile that went along with his quick wit and I always looked forward to chatting with him when I visited the store. His bright light will always twinkle and shine in his work corner and I know he is there watching over things and keeping an eye on the pin ball machines. God Speed on your continued journey into the unknown Ken. You are indeed a Pinball Wizard.

Yes, I can attest to his mischievousness! When he was about 10, he took some copper wire remnants that he found outside under a telephone pole. He quickly showed my younger brother and I how cool it was to shuffle our feet across the new living room carpet and touch the metal pole lamp and see the sparks! Sometimes instead of touching the pole lamp, he touched our arms! Yeah, we saw the spark, but we felt it worse! Marie Layton Holts, Ken's sister
