I feel sorry for those of you who never met Johnny Carbery. He truly was a unique man in so many ways.
I had the pleasure of meeting him only a handful of times but each time was unique and special. He offered a special gift of making you feel welcome under any circumstances. A warm heart and a kind soul come to mind when I think of Johnny. I have thought for a while about an analogy of how fast Johnny would make you feel special., and here is how fast I think you would meet Johnny Carbery:
1) if you entered an elevator on the first floor with Johnny, by the time you arrived to the second floor, you would know Johnny on a first name basis.
2) If you traveled with him to the third floor, you would be friends with him on Facebook.
3) If you went to the fourth floor with Johnny still in the elevator, you would have been invited over to his house for dinner and drinks.
That is just how fast you would get to know Johnny Carbery.
Yes, He left us way too early for our liking, however, God had a different plan, it is one that we will never understand until we meet Johnny again. He has left us with so many joyous memories.
He will truly be missed.
As I said in my opening sentence:
I feel sorry for those of you who never met Johnny Carbery. He truly was a unique man in so many ways.

Dear Kay,
I just received your card with a beautiful photo of you and John and I am so sorry to hear about his passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers and you were so lucky to have 26 lovely years with him. I remember seeing you at your wedding and how beautiful it was. I am also remembering your family Christmas cards and our adventures in Sun Valley. . snowboarding class, Andy Foster and other amazing times. I have been in Georgia for five years and hope to get back to Sun Valley in the summer. Maybe we can plan to be there at the same time. Thinking of you fondly and remembering John. So sorry about Murphy too! Love, Lyn Stallard

Kay,
I'm so sorry for your loss. It has been said that in one's lifetime, you only meet a handful of people that you can call true friends. I met John in the late 70's. I've had the pleasure of his friendship over all these years. He truly as my special friend. He was always there in hard times and great times. I personally will miss his true passion for life and the friendship we shared.

Dr. Carbery was a force of positive energy that will be sorely missed at the American Association of Dental Boards. As a Board of Director, John was highly respected for his dedication to his patients and commitment to our organization. We could always count on him to think critically about issues and make tough decisions in the best interest of the AADB. I was honored to be his colleague and I am a better person because of him. He profoundly touched many of us in the world of dentistry with his insights.
I am so sorry for the loss.
Tonia Socha-Mower, Executive Director of AADB & Friend

John was one of a kind, a smile that would light up the room and a friend to all. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. I worked for John for 13 years and he was the best boss I ever worked for. He truly cared about his employees and their families. His family was so important to him! I remember when he first met Kay and how his eyes sparkled. His children and grandchildren were the center of his universe. I am sorry for your loss Kay, Sarah, Lyndsey and James. John was so loved! Our community has lost a dear friend.

Hello Kay,
I am so saddened by the passing of John, and sending big hugs to you!
John was always so kind, warm and welcoming whenever I see him at meetings. I will be forever grateful to his support and encouragement even in the early days of Everyone for Veterans. Those were such inspiration to me.
I will definitely raise a pint on St Paddy's day for John! May his soul rest in peace.
With deepest condolences,
Theresa

John was our family dentist for 30 years. We trusted and cared for him completely. Here is the story of how we came to be his patients. When we moved to Yakima in 1990 I was volunteering at Nob Hill School, where my daughter was in third grade. One day as I was at the PTA popcorn machine a man walked by, waving and saying "hello" and the other PTA volunteers all greeted him "Hi, Dr. Carbery". I asked who it was and they told me that every Friday Dr. Carbery volunteered in his kids' classes. That did it. Any dentist who spent his free time volunteering at his kids' school was the guy for me. We became patients soon after and for the years to come. You will be greatly missed, John. All our best to the whole family. Donna Raforth
