Obituary of Pauline C. Evans

Pauline C. Evans, one day shy of 95 years young, passed away in her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Olympia, Washington.  She was born in Picher, Oklahoma, and married the love of her life, Maynard W. Evans, on February 2, 1944.

Pauline was a strong member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a teacher of children.  She and Maynard were very active in the church; he served as the church treasurer, and they both held other callings.  Pauline was an example to everyone of being Christ-like.

Pauline loved her family, and enjoyed staying at home and taking care of them.  She loved to bake and cook; decorate the house; entertain family and friends; grow veggies and flowers.  She enjoyed working on word-find books, and putting together puzzles.

Pauline is survived by her children, Bruce, Diane (husband, John), Jim, and Sharon; grandchildren, Todd, Eric, Tom, Ben, Jeremy and Brenna; and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard (7/9/1993); her third child, Jim E. Evans (9/22/2014); and son-in-law, Wally Blake (2/14/2018).

She is loved by all and will be missed dearly.  We will all be together soon.

Pauline Clara Evans:

The Last of the 1925 Oklahoma Bruces

--written by Bruce Evans

The last surviving member of the Oklahoma Bruce clan passed at 6:00 a.m. on October 10, 2020, in Olympia, Washington.

Pauline C. Bruce, who became Pauline C. Evans, was born October 11, 1925, in Picher, Oklahoma. She was one of five sisters raised in Oklahoma during the Great Depression. Her sisters were Lorene, the oldest; Lessie and Bessie, the twins; Pauline (mom); and Jean, the youngest. Mary Belle Bruce was the matriarch and Robley Grey Bruce the head of the clan. During the Great Depression, the one thing that held the family together was there love for each other.

Mom met dad, Maynard W. Evans, while he was in the Navy during WWII.  They were married on February 2, 1944. Maynard passed on July 9, 1993.

They had four children, two girls and two boys. The daughters are Sharon Blake, married to Wally Blake, who passed on February 14, 2018; and Diane Peterson, married to John Peterson, who fathered three grandsons, Erick, Ben, and Tom. Erick in turn produced two great grandsons, Samuel and Timothy.

The sons were Jim E. Evans, who passed on September 22, 2014, having fathered two great grandchildren, Breanna, and Jeremy; and Bruce W. Evans, who fathered one grandson, Todd.  Todd in turn fathered three great granddaughters, Zoe, Bella, and Valentina.

Even though Pauline Evans was the last Bruce, she maintained a ray of smiling sunshine that bought joy and happiness to everyone she met. Getting old was no big deal to mom. She was a hard-working Oklahoma, Nazarene Christian woman who was looking forward to one day meeting her maker.

For the last six years, mom lived with her younger daughter, Sharon and her husband Wally, and a bunch of puppies. Mom loved those puppies and those puppies loved her.  Mom was a lover of crossword puzzles and gardening, but most of all she loved being with her family.

She was showered with love by Sharon and Wally, who considered her a treasure.  Her humor, even at an old age, always delighted them.

Mom passed peacefully at the age of 95 in the presence of her daughter, Sharon. Losing this wonderful person has left the entire family broken hearted. Mom is now with dad, Wally, and her son, Jim.

Mom, we will all soon be with you. Death cannot take away our undying love for you.
