Obituary of Jennifer Anne Bliss

Our beloved Jennifer Anne Bliss passed away September 2, 2020 after an accident in her home.  She started life March 15, 1959, in Anchorage, Alaska, and finished life here in Olympia, Washington.  In the years between, she spent time living in both Utah and in England. She was born to Lloyd and Billie Bliss, and also enjoyed a special relationship with her stepmother, Patricia Bliss (Nelson). 

 

Jennifer loved learning and was always passionate about education and music.  She graduated from Olympia High School as a member of Strolling Strings, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Brigham Young University, and earned a Master’s of Education from the University of Washington.  She also traveled Europe while studying Violin Performance under Kato Havas.  She loved to travel and was able to visit Europe again recently with her mom, Patricia.  Her love of music also led her to playing the violin locally as part of both the Olympia Symphony Orchestra more recently the Olympia Chamber Orchestra.  As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jennifer also had numerous opportunities to perform and accompany others as they performed at church functions and worship.

 

Professionally, she taught publicly at the Dragon School in Oxford, England, and closer to home at the Tenino School District.  She also taught violin and piano privately, worked in the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and for the Washington State Division of Behavior Health and Recovery. 

 

She is survived by her mom, Patricia Bliss (Nelson); daughters, Amanda Miller, Michelle Barry, and Hailey Marie; six grandchildren; and brothers, Charles Bliss, Howard Bliss, Richard Bliss, Rodney Bliss, and John Skeen.

 

Private services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, 4:00 p.m.  A Zoom link is available by request from the family.
