Obituary of Derrick Louis Volkhardt

Derrick Louis Volkhardt (formerly known as, Derrick Huerta), 35, passed away March 13, 2020, in Olympia, Washington, his home of 32 years.  He was born December 4, 1984, to Fran Volkhardt in Pasco, Washington.

Derrick attended Griffin Elementary and Capital High School, and earned his GED from South Puget Sound Community College.  He owned and operated A+ Lawn LLC (2017-2020) after previously being employed by the company.  Derrick loved the challenge of being a business owner and serving his customers.  Prior to this, he was employed by Discount Tire in Lacey.

Derrick married Nicole L. Schmith on September 18, 2010 and attended Life Pointe Church in Olympia.  He was happiest when he was hanging out with his family and friends, fishing, and spending time in the woods.  Derrick loved animals and often brought home stray dogs and cats.  He also enjoyed working on his many trucks and amateur gunsmithing.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole L. Volkhardt; son, Derrick Louis Volkhardt Jr. (age 7); daughter, Camilla Lee Volkhardt (age 3); parents, Greg and Fran Volkhardt; brother, Kent Welborn Jr.; niece, Lindsay Welborn; nephew, Robert Welborn; and cousins, Teri and Maxine DiDesidero. He was predeceased by grandparents, Robert and Shirley Cummings, and Louis and Marjorie Volkhardt.

A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
