Obituary of Marjorie Jean Erickson

A Weaver of Silk, with Hands, Feet, Head and Heart. The last scarf that Marjorie Jean Erickson wove was a verse of Colorful Dots.

Marjorie was born in Bondual, Wisconsin, to Clarence and Mary Erickson on November 3, 1950. She lived in Olympia, Washington, where she enjoyed weaving on any one of her five looms, making scarves, rugs, material for clothing and complex weaving designs. Most of all she loved teaching other the art of weaving from beginners to advanced weavers in double weave. Marjorie taught weaving at the Arbutus Folk School and though the Olympia Weavers Guild. A part of Marjorie’s young childhood was spent on the family farm, where her father grew up. She loved it so. Green Bay Wisconsin was home for many years and she graduated from West High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay.

To seek some adventure, Marjorie moved to Montana in 1976, and worked in the early childhood education field. That is where she married her husband, Frank, in 1981. They had a loving relationship that lasted for nearly 39 years. 1986 called for another adventitious move, this time to Washington State, where Marjorie enjoyed a diverse working career. The weaving progressed over the years and so did her expertise as she mastered the different styles and techniques. Teaching was always in her soul, and her knowledge was a gift to others who could collect and recall as a memory. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory become a treasure. What a smile, infectious. Marjorie you will be so missed by the many friends, and family members. A light did not go out; it just got brighter.

Marjorie took her last breath at home on February 25, 2020, with her husband and friend by her side. Marjorie is survived by her husband, Francis Feikema; brother, Richard Erickson, and his wife, Janet; sister, Clarice Erickson; three nieces, Sara, Heidi, Laura; and sister-in-law, Becky Feikema.
