Obituary of Joan Rita Wininger

Joan Rita Wininger passed away June 18, 2019 in Olympia, Washington.  She was born January 10, 1940 to James Joseph and Stella Mary Thomas in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  She resided in Newhall, California before moving to Olympia in 2005.

 

Joan graduated from Canoga Park High School, and married Earl Edward Wininger on August 20, 1960 in Canoga Park, Calif.  She was a loving wife and mother, and created wonderful memories for her family.  She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Joan loved her job as a school yard supervisor at Peachland Elementary School in Newhall, and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Olympia.  She was funny and loved to laugh.  She loved singing and dancing to Bob Seager songs. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, hiking, and playing ping pong, board games, and puzzles.

 

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Earl Wininger; daughters, Jennifer Huthmacher, Rhonda Wininger, Carolyn Wininger, Robin Hauge and Justine Jenkins; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers, George Thomas, John Thomas; and sisters, Ann Garrison, Juanita Nabors, and Sr. Mary Bridget.

 

Services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church Westside Chapel, 1835 Overhulse Road NW, Olympia, WA 98502.  The Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m.
