To Bessie's Children & their Families,
You guys had a most amazing mother. And I know this will become even more apparent as you go through her possessions. You will see her worldly accomplishments are even more than you ever realized! Not just the the visble things she did for others but the spiritual gifts of prayer, love, and support that she gave. Her life was not easy but she always gave, not only to her own family, but to others. She was my personal unsung saint.
I know that when my parents passed, I learned that I hardly knew them at all. They also did so much good in this world but never called attention to themselves. I never knew; in fact, I am still learning. You will too. Cherish your memories and tears.
Cousin Margie

Blessings to all of Bessie Cooks family and friends. What a woman Bessie was who loved her Lord so much. I treasure all the times we shared and most of all playing Skippo around her table with fun and laughter. We have enjoyed having her as Our Grandma of the Year for Preceptor Alpha Alpha Beta Sigma Phi Sorority that Ellie has been a member for so many years along with Mary Wickersham and myself, Judy Kimes. Thank you Lord for Grandma Bessie, herwhole family and friends and most of all two of her daughters Ellie snd Jeannette That mean so much to me. What wonderful fellowship we had every time we enjoyed Bessie and her loved ones. Blessings to you all!! Psalm 139 is just how much God our Father loves us all!!!

MOTHER
M stands for MERCY - Mom had compassion. She showed it in her love for God, her family, and the foster children she cared for and loved. She was like a second Mom or Grandmother to many. We knew she would be there for us to call upon, for prayer, or just to give us a few dollars when needed.
M also, stands for MEMORIES- one of mine was taking her to the beach when she was 80 and discovering she had never gone barefoot in the sand - yes you do know what we did next…
O is for ONE OF A KIND - She welcomed so many into her heart and home; Family, Friends, In-laws and even outlaws…
She was non judgmental and you could tell her anything.
Mom and Dad took foster children into our home. Many of these kids were babies who did not stay long others stayed for years and became part of our family. Some of them were drug babies or handicapped and needed special treatment. I tried the best I could to help but, I did not have the patience Mom had; I never could get it when she tried to show me how to make bias tape for the quilts she made for family and donations.
T= THERESA - Many years ago Mom became a member of The Third Order of Carmelites. Lay Carmelites, filled with the spirit of the Order, seek to live their own vocation by silently listening to the Word of God. According to the constant tradition of Carmel, they will especially cultivate prayer in all its forms. They try to live in the spirt of the Beatitudes, humbly and consistently exercising the virtues of honestly, justice, sincerity, courtesy and fortitude, without which no Christian or human life is possible.
We recently learned her Carmelite name is “Theresa of Holy Wounds.” of coarse we found her commitment and name in her daily prayer book! She was determined to keep her commitment to prayer even when her eyes failed her. There were times when my sister or I read them to her and if we had known why they were so important to her we would have done it more often.
H= HUMILITY= Our Mother was not vane she did not care about putting on a show for anyone. She dressed simple and modest. She was a very gently in nature and in her early years of Marriage she followed our Dad on adventures which led them into Mining and even dairy farming showing her ability to stay the coarse even through difficult times. When I was a child she broke her back and for years she suffered in silence.
E= EVERYWHERE - Last year I was helping Mom go though some clothes for donation and in almost every pocket besides kleenex I found a rosary. And even now I seem to find them everywhere. She was a true prayer warrior and I know she will intercede for those of us who will always need and have her in our hearts and by our side. Whether waiting in a car or at her weekly rosary group she always had a rosary or several close by.
R= REST - She fought a good fight and has now interred into her rest and I know God’s voice will say: “Enter in good and faithful servant”… Job well done… “Mother- Job well done”…
