Obituary of Eleanor Rice Erickson

Eleanor Rice Erickson was born April 17, 1924, to Oscar LeGrande and Erma Allen Rice in Provo, Utah.

She married Henry Keith Erickson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 16, 1948, and was the mother of three children, Barbara Erickson Cooke, Marcia Erickson Coppin, and Marlene Erickson.

Eleanor grew up during the Depression and attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University during WW II.

She was a faithful wife, a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, and dear friend.

Eleanor was a lady “right down to the ground”…was patient, kind, polite and eager to make others comfortable…loved flowers, people, beautiful dishes, good books…and was an artist, gardener, and meticulous seamstress.  She was a lifelong learner, always exploring through books and classes.  She was a member of a literary guild, a neighborhood sewing group, Church study group, dinner club, and ladies lunch bunch.  She loved traveling with friends, attending musical and theatrical performances and entertaining in her home.

She passed from this life on March 13, 2009 at her home in Lacey, Washington, with her daughters holding her hands.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Morgan) Cooke, and Marcia (Eric) Coppin; grandchildren, Bart (Leslie) Coppin, Heidi (Andy) Marshall, Anna (Jeff) Swallow, and Benjamin Coppin; great-grandchildren, Beren, Asher and Indiana Coppin, Drake, Hunter and Sawyer Marshall, and Ruby Jane Swallow; and sister, Maxine (Jospeh) Booth of Sarasota, Florida.  She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Donald Rice; husband, Keith Erickson; and daughter, Marlene “Marni” Erickson.

We have been blessed in knowing Eleanor.  We love her very much.

A funeral service will be held March 17, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Nisqually Hills Chapel. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m.
