Obituary of Evelyn Marlene Fulks

Evelyn Marlene Fulks, 79, died of natural causes at her Olympia, Washington, home on January 2, 2019.

Evelyn was born November 24, 1939 in Berlin, Germany, to Alfons and Erna (Hoffman) Tenz.  She grew up and attended schools in Germany.  In 1959, she met and married Jimmy Mack Fulks, a U.S. soldier.  In 1959, they were transferred to Fort Bragg in Danville, North Carolina, and later divorced.  Evelyn then married Lloyd Erick Byland, and the family moved to Monterrey, California; Panama; and then Olympia in 1969.

Evelyn was a homemaker who raised three sons, Jeffrey, Dean and Daniel in the Olympia area.  She did volunteer work with Providence St. Peter Hospital, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading (especially her “People” magazine), playing cribbage, cooking, and baking. Evelyn attended a local Lutheran church.

Her sons remember Evelyn as being funny and outgoing, having a good sense of humor, and loving life.  They also remember her as being feisty, headstrong, stubborn and to the point. She showed who the boss was, and people did what she said.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by her sons, Jeffrey Fulks, Dean Fulks and Daniel Bylund; grandchildren, Taylor, Joshua, Stevie, Harmony; and a great grandchild, Nevaeh. Her brother, Wolfgang Tenz, preceded her in death.
