Jerry Pop

Obituary of Jerry Steven Pop

Jerry Steven Pop, 61, departed this life due to liver cancer on November 10, 2018 in Olympia, Washington.  He was born on March 26, 1957 in Taylorville, Illinois to Steve and Jennie Pop.  Raised in Illinois, he also lived in Yakima, Washington, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Kentucky, which he grew to love.

A graduate of Taylorville High School (1975) and Bailey Technical School (1978) in St. Louis, Missouri, Jerry was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic.  He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, as well as a career member of the Boilermakers Union.

Jerry was loyal, dependable, fun-loving, and had a twisted sense of humor.  He could fix anything that was broken, and loved to help others.  He especially treasured time spent with family and friends.  Jerry also enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, music, reading, and watching the History Channel and other educational programs.

Jerry lived life to the fullest.  He will be remembered for his signature phrases, such as “Are you asking me…or telling me?,” “Whatcha wearing?,” “Drive it like a man,” “Hey, Trudy,” and “Nobody gets out alive.”

He is survived by his son Justin (Candice) Pop; daughter, Ashley Pop (Bobby) Barrow; five grandchildren (Wyatt, Joslyn, Rowan, Landon and Madilyn); mother, Jennie Pop; and sisters, Joanie Pop (David Smelcer) and Cindy “Squid” Pop (Charles “Boots”) Howard.  His father, Steve Pop, preceded him in death.
