Obituary of Mary M. (Vassar) Canfield
Mary M. (Vassar) Canfield passed away July 1, 2018 in Centralia, Washington, her home of 20 years. She was born October 6, 1937 to Benjamin and Grace Vassar in Stambaugh, Michigan. She also lived in Wisconsin, moving to Tenino, Washington in 1947, where she lived for more than 30 years.
In 1955, Mary graduated from 12th grade in Tenino, and married Floyd B. Canfield at Violet Prairie Church on September 23, 1955. She was office manager at Acropolis Chiropractic, a cook at Tenino School, and a master cake decorator. She was a member of Violet Prairie Church and Chehalis-Centralia Vintage Auto Club.
Mary is survived by her husband of 62 years, Floyd B. Canfield; sons, Mark Canfield and Brent (Paula) Canfield; daughter, Evie Torner; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Alice) Vassar and Harold (Mary) Vassar; and aunt, Donna Jean (Carlos) Bolyard. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Betty Vassar and Etta Mae Vassar; and brother, Earl (Berndine) Vassar.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501. Funeral services will take place Saturday, July 14, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Tenino, 196 W. Central Avenue, Tenino, WA 98589. Interment will take place at Forest Grove Cemetery, 18011 Northcraft Road SE, Tenino, WA 98589, followed by a Potluck Lunch at Skoomchuck Grange Hall, 5345 Skookumchuck Road SE, Tenino, WA 98589.
