Obituary of Thelma May (Sloan) Stitham

Thelma May (Sloan) Stitham passed away June 21, 2018 in Tumwater, Washington.  She was born September 26, 1934 to John Delbert and Alice Ruth (Knittle) Sloan in Morton, Washington.  She grew up in Morton and, after high school graduation, attended a year at Centralia Junior College where she met and married Amos Stitham.

 

A 40-year resident of Tenino, Washington, Thelma was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children.  She was active as a leader of the Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts, and served as Mother Advisor of the Tenino Rainbow organization. 

 

In her youth, Thelma was a natural athlete.  She played women’s fast pitch as a young adult and was a lifelong sports enthusiast.  She was a devoted Seahawks and Mariners fan, but especially loved supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s sports events: T-ball; Little League; high school, baseball, football, wrestling, and track and field; 4-H horse events; and Tumwater High School equestrian competitions.

 

Thelma was a lifetime member (50 years plus) of the Order of Eastern Star.  She attended Littlerock Community Church.

 

She is survived by her son, Amos Stitham of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Alice Swidecki of Tenino, Washington; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and brother, Roland Sloan of Chelan, Washington.  She was predeceased by her parents; and grandsons, Ryan John Swidecki and Joshua Amos Stitham.
