Obituary of Joseph Christian Childress
Joseph Christian Childress was born May 8, 1956 in Vancouver, Washington. He was called home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2018 at age 62, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer. Joe married the love of his life Roxanne R. Rieke on April 19, 1975. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage. Joe is survived by his wife, Roxanne; his daughters, Angela Childress and Tina Sandoval; his grandsons, Logan Sandoval and Garrett Sandoval; his brother, Bill Childress Jr.; and sister, Suzi Pool.
Joe was a carpenter. He grew up on his dad’s construction sites and, as a little boy, knew that he wanted to “pound nails.” He enjoyed using his creativity to make things from wood, whether it was building and remodeling homes or building decks, cabinets, bookcases, and many other things with wood.
Joe thoroughly enjoyed elk and deer hunting and sturgeon fishing with his friends, but mostly with his best friend, his wife Roxanne. They enjoyed sitting in the tree stands or hunting blinds watching and waiting, or sitting in front of their fishing poles waiting for that bite all the while talking about their life together. Joe also loved riding his motorcycle. He rode all over Washington and even rode to North Dakota to visit his daughter and grandsons.
Joe came to know the Lord as a child. Since his battle with cancer began, Joe became even closer to the Lord and sought Him for strength to make it day by day.
Family and friends are invited to join us in remembering Joe at a Memorial Service on Saturday June 23, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Neighborhood Christian Center, 1110 S 2nd Ave., Tumwater, WA 98512.
