Arthur Bramel

Obituary of Arthur Glenn Bramel

Arthur Glenn Bramel In the arms of the Angels, Arthur Glenn Bramel passed away on Tuesday July 9, 2013 at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia. Complications from long-term Diabetes took their final toll and ended his 75+ years here on earth. Art was born on June 15, 1938 in Seattle,Washington to Laurel Bell and Leonard Bramel. He grew up primarily in the Grayland/Tokeland and Seattle areas. He attended schools in Seattle before serving in the US Navy from about 1954 to 1961. Art served in Japan, Hawaii, and places he couldn’t tell his family about. He traveled and worked at many jobs after leaving the Navy, including as a professional fisherman on the Washington coast and as a Seattle Policeman. For most of his career, Art was a journeyman Boilermaker/Rigger, using those skills to help build a local ferry, as well as working at Hanford, Todd Shipyards and most recently in the early 1990’s at Foss Tug, among other local companies. In between, during the mid-eighties Art graduated from South Seattle Community College’s cooking program, earning a Business Management degree. Art was a fantastic cook; many will remember him from his days cooking at “The Corner” in West Seattle. Art moved from West Seattle to SeaTac and later to the Olympia area with his significant other, Mary Lou, almost 20 years ago. The years when they raised his children Sarah and Richard were some of his most rewarding. Art enjoyed talking with CB buddies as “208,” and on Ham Radios (call sign KB7TVW), communicating with people around the world. Art had a great sense of humor, and loved sharing stories with his friends and family. He had the best laugh! The outdoors, driving and building things with his own hands were some of Art’s favorite things. He was justly proud of the work he did, and loved to point out bridges, tugs and ships that he had worked on. Best memories of his son Richard include Art picking up him and his buddies after football games & cracking jokes all the way home, and building things with his Dad. Sarah laughs as she remembers watching her boys with Art on their recent visit home, playing with them, and hugging for all they were worth. Surviving are his significant other of 22 years, Mary Lou Rough of Olympia; daughter Sarah Bramel of Yakima; four sons: Richard of Olympia, and Arthur, Leonard and Robert Bramel, locations unknown; his two Grandchildren Aiden and Kyle were a joy and most precious to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and, earlier this month, by his life-long best friend Terry O’Neil. A short ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery, as Art is laid to rest beside his beloved mother. Family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice or the American Diabetes Association. strong>Please leave memories of Arthur or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
