Ms. Best was one of the nicest people I knew. She always helped me with my math in the morning. She worked with me one on one three days a week for many many months to get grade from a D to a B+. She was always fun and energetic. She always wore the cutest clothes. I will miss her sense of style, how fun she was, and what a great teacher she was. I will miss her so much and I will always remember her.

I was blessed to have known Denise for the past eight years. We met through her beautiful daughter Margaretha. Margy to me. I was one of Margy’s care givers from Kindergarten through sixth grade. For some reason Margy and I bonded quickly and became the best of friends. Denise noticed it and introduced herself to me and thanked me for caring for her little girl. The minute Denise spoke to me I knew she was a blessing and a joy. I saw the love she had for her daughter and the smile she shared with everyone else was contagious. Over the years we became close and I always was in awe of what a wonderful mom she was to Margy and Maggie, who I came to know a few years later. I was always hearing about their trips and weekends and all the fun stuff they did together. I remember telling Margy that she had the coolest mom ever. But Margy already knew that. Their relationship was loving and oh so much fun. I feel blessed to have gotten to share a part of their lives. Although Denise left us way too soon, I will cherish every memory that I have. Until we meet again, Denise. All my love and blessings to you and all of your family. A big thank you to her husband Chris for doing everything for her and for loving and supporting her through this tough time. Denise I hope you are soaring with angels!

Denise was my sweet ” baby” cousin and I will always remember our family gatherings, particularly at Easter, when we were all together. I wish we had more of those times than we did over the years, but distance did not diminish the love we all shared as a family, a relatively small family. Dear Denise, I know I will see you again one day and, in the meantime, I am here should your family ever want to come visit all of the Virginia cousins. They will have a place to stay when they do and I promise to share fond memories of you with them. I love you…

Denise “touched the future” as a teacher. Her students will carry the impact she had on them into their futures. What a tribute to her! I am grateful for the time we spent as colleagues at Griffin but I remember most our crazy Bunco games and all the laughter Denise provided. She will be missed!

Words cannot express the sadness being experienced by all who knew Denise. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have represented her this past year at Griffin. I got to know Denise through the eyes and hearts of her coworkers, and former students. I met her during Christmas break and was struck with her grace and humor through intense pain. Her legacy is in her impact on the lives she touched. Because of that, she lives in the memories of those who carry them. Looking forward to getting to know her better in heaven.

I will miss her kind and insightful guidance as a teaching mentor and friend. Student teaching in her classroom was eye-opening and inspiring. She has been in there for me ever since, ready to advise and listen when I needed. As much as she loved teaching, she loved being a mother more — and her own girls were never far from her thoughts or conversation. I am a better mother and person for her example.

Chris, Magaretha and Magdelina. we are so sorry for the loss of Denise. She fought a tough battle with grace and dignity. Every picture I saw of her, she was smiling even though I know it must have been extremely difficult most of the time. I have many found memories of my little cousin, Denise-playing in the yard and basement with her and Lois, family dinners spent laughing and yes even screaming!! Aunt Joan, I hope you are doing ok- you are in our thoughts and prayers as well. It is hard being so far away-hugs to all of you. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her…

Besides being Denise’s Aunt I was privileged to be her Godmother. I held her on the day she was baptized. She did not cry and because she had only had a little hair Joan taped a little white bow to her head. I have so many fond memories of Denise growing up I could not list them all. But there are some special moments that stick in my mind. Christmas of course was a very big holiday in the Best household. Denise would open her presents and proceed to model the clothes for everyone to see. Also because meals were always a big occasion, Denise had a spot at the table in her highchair, but on the floor was a large round piece of plastic because she liked to throw the food. Denise along with Lois were my bridal party and my daughter, Valentina, was one of her flower girls. I will truly miss her lovely smile.

The loss of Denise is a loss to so many, especially those who knew and loved her. Her kind heart and compassion was evident in all she did and believed in. Her smile was always welcoming and she opened her heart and door to all. I especially remember the trip we took to Settle with our daughter Christine and how Denise made us welcome. We were all so happy to be together. Denise always loved spending time with family. We never saw her more happy than with the birth of her beautiful daughter Margaretha, her dream came true. With all the love she shared, she still had room for one more, her stepdaughter Magdalena. I know with all her heart and soul, Denise nourished both Margaretha and Magdalena as well as their relationship with each other. May the girls always remember how important that was to her. Her love for Chris was unquestionable and made her made her life complete. She will always be in our thoughts and hearts. Our love and prayers are with Denise, Chris Margaretha, Magdalena and her Mom Joan, now and forever. Hoping there is some peace knowing Denise is now in God’s loving embrace.

So very sorry to hear of your loss. I was blessed in getting to know Denise during her hospital days even though many of those days she was feeling bad. What an incredible person with such courage, strength, and love in her heart. No wonder she has such a wonderful family as you. Goodness attracts goodness. We all know she is with Jesus where all her suffering is gone. I pray our Heavenly Father comforts you in unexpected ways and gives you the strength to walk thru your days ahead even though your hearts are filled with grief. In time may the pain you’re feeling now be replaced with only the Love Denise has left each of you in your hearts. Wish I could come on the 9th and give each of you a big hug, but I won’t be able to make it. Remember, we will see her again!
