Obituary of Rose Marie Barrett

Rose Marie Barrett, age 80, died at her home in Olympia, Washington, on Friday, August 8, 2014. Born July 8, 1934, in Canton, Ohio, Rose graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio in 1952. Upon graduation, Rose attended airline school in Kansas City, Missouri. She then embarked on an adventurous life of travel, first as a travel industry professional and then as a military spouse for the next 31 years. She and her husband made their final residence in Olympia in 1983. Music was Rose’s first love; as such, she was a lifetime member of the Greater Olympia Dixieland Jazz Society and an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Douglas Barrett of Olympia; her sisters, Mary Breninger of Canton, Ohio, and Caroline VanDress of Alliance, Ohio; brother, John “Jack” Uhl of Navarro, Ohio; son, Stephen Barrett of Seattle, Washington; daughter, Susan Cook of Greenfield, Indiana; and grandchildren, Ashley and Zachary Cook of Greenfield. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marguerite Uhl of Massillon, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Rose’s name be made to the charity of your choice.
