Obituary of John David Armes

John David Armes John David Armes (David to all who knew him) was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 11, 1954 to the late John D. and Susie Hicks Armes. He unexpectedly left us on April 12, 2013 but lives forever in our hearts. David was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and worked in the field of Human Services for his entire career, first in Tennessee, and then in Chesterfield County, Virginia, before moving to Washington where he has spent his last 18 years dedicated to public service with DSHS; his final position was Financial Program Supervisor 4, of Aging and Disability Services, Home and Community Services. David was a quiet man, possessing a great intellect that was obvious in all of those things about which he was passionate. He loved a variety of music, from classical to Pentangle, REM to King Crimson, Sufjan Stevens to Jeff Buckley. He was also a gifted gardener who studied every aspect of planting and has left behind a garden of exotic, beautiful plants as a legacy. David had just started to seriously study digital photography as well, immersing himself in learning to take photos of the fine details of the plants that he loved to grow. He was an Apple devotee from the beginning, and intuitive in using and enjoying the succession of Apple computers that entered his life. And his knowledge of Major League Baseball and all of its minutiae was impressive indeed, even as he kept following the ups and downs of the Seattle Mariners for the past 18 years. David is survived by his loving wife Sharon of Olympia, and his three precious children, Julian, Carey, and Charles. He and Sharon were married on May 24, 1991 in Tennessee and moved to Washington in 1994. David is also survived by his aunt Bonnie Raby of Oliver Springs, TN, and numerous cousins. He leaves behind a host of friends and coworkers who will miss his dry sense of humor and his dedication to getting the job done. Our lives were truly blessed by knowing this gentle man. A celebration of David’s life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Olympia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013. “Promises last forever.” Please leave memories of David or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
