Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Williams

Elizabeth Ann Williams, born September 16, 1923, grew up with 13 brothers and sisters on a farm in the small community of Opportunity in the Spokane Valley, Washington. She died peacefully on March 2, 2014, surrounded by her children. Her brother Roger was a devoted visitor and they could be seen on daily outings around her home at Manor Care in Olympia. Betty served as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate in the Navy during WWII. She loved working on the F4 Corsairs and she loved to fly. She obtained her private pilot’s license after WWII. Betty married Leo Buck in 1946 and was devoted to her entire extended family. They raised their four children, Pamela Jo Buck, Peggy Ann Cooke, Daniel Leo Buck, and Patricia Buck Davis in Spokane and moved the family to Seattle in 1963. Betty is survived by her four children, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one sister, and three brothers. Her faith in her family left us the legacy of living up to her good opinion! Betty was a bookkeeper and held positions in all facets of that profession. She spent the bulk of her career as a payroll manager – and as she liked to say, “Everyone loved me once a week!” She worked part-time into her mid-80s. She was an avid golfer and loved traveling in search of new courses to play. Her favorite was Hawaii, of course, and golfing with her sisters Tela and Pauline. She loved going out to lunch or dinner and enjoying a cold glass of Chardonnay. She was an avid reader and loved classical music. Her brother Ted was a classical pianist and she especially enjoyed listening to him play. Always an animal lover, her favorite companions were her beloved calico cats. They provided her with endless love and companionship. She was fiercely independent and loved adventure and travel. Betty believed in giving back, and volunteered at the Olympia Amtrak Station, the Sunshine House at St. Peter Hospital, and as a Hospice volunteer. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the ASPCA, Hospice, or your favorite charity. Please leave memories of Betty or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
