Obituary of Charles Richard Winter

None Charles Richard Winter Charles R. Winter passed away at his home in Rochester WA. on October 27, 2005, following an extended illness. Charles was born October 28, 1930 in Bathgate, ND. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from the Crookston AC and lived in the Hallock area until he entered the military in 1952, serving in the Air Force. Upon his discharge he returned to the Hallock area and worked the family farm for several years, he married Phyllis Carlson, in 1955 and together they began a family. All of his children were with Charles in his final days. Charles and Phyllis left Minnesota and lived in Northwestern Montana, Northern Idaho and the Seattle area, before finally settling in the Rochester, WA in 1977. Charles was a skilled diesel and heavy equipment mechanic and spent the last 18 years of his career at the WIDCO Coal Mine near Centralia, retiring in 1995. Charles family were members of the St. Mark's, Lutheran Church and other local organizations. Charles is survived by his wife, Phyllis, sons Richard of Boise, ID, Barry of Olympia, WA, daughters Debbie (Mike) McGinnis, Shelly (Rich) Alexander of Rochester, and Valerie (John) Jordan of Coeur d'Alene ID. He is also survived by brothers Duane, Pipestone, MN, Glen (Judy), Fargo, ND, and sister Judy (Leonard) Iten, Fargo, ND, six grandchildren; Jennifer, Nicole, Hayley, William, Matt and McKenzie; one great grandchild, Jordan, and many nieces and nephews. Charles greatest pride and joy came from spending time with his extended family and his numerous friends. To know Charles was to know a generous and loving spirit and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
