Fred was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas, where he went to high school and played on the football team. Fred and his wife, Virginia (Mabel Belle Smith), met in Coffeyville and were married January 5th, 1938. They moved to the Portland, Oregon area in 1942 prior to moving to Tigard, Oregon, where he resided for nearly 60 years. Most recently Fred resided at the Lodge at Roo-Lan in Olympia, WA., near the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Kathy and Don Vogan of Olympia, WA., formerly of Anchorage, AK. He and his wife, Virginia, enjoyed raising a spectacular garden every year and canning the fruits of the garden, much of which they gave to friends. Camping and fishing at Detroit Lake south of Portland was a favorite pastime. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Charlie Vogan and Ethel Norris; 3 brothers including Glen, Earl and Jack, who was killed in action in the Pacific during World War II; and his sisters, Blanche Mathis, Mae Milligan and Jean Meyers.
