To Family and Friends,
Jim and I were wondering what we could share with others about our lives with Dad. There was so much that we learned while living in our parents home, and watching them live their lives together, what could I possibly say?
What did I learn from my father? I didn't learn the fine art of comversation. I didn't learn to appreciate fine wines, expensive art, gourmet dining and the proper use of a drawer full of utensils at every place setting. Nor did he impart a love for poetry, opera or ballet. No, none of that fine cultured stuff, just an example of honesty, hard work, responsibility, fairness, integrity, and compassion.
One day, while living on Abernathy Road in Lacey, I was watching Dad work on the family car. Dad had borrowed a special tool from a neighbor because he didn't own one. The tool broke There wasn't any foul language, whining, moaning, or a moment's hesitation. Dad went to Sears and replaced the borrowed, rusty(and now broken)tool with a new one, and a thank you. The neighbor didn't think it was necessary, but Dad did.
It that same house and around the same time, I was 8 or 9, and mowing the lawn with a power mower. I saw the hose lying in the grass and, not wanting to delay the already delayed start to my play time, chose to mow over it. Ooopsy! Oh well! Then Oooopsy, again. Twice, I had run over the hose TWICE! Arrrrrgh! Fortunately, I dicided to tell Dad what I had done. Standing there waiting for my dreaded punishment, Dad put his hand on my shoulder, looked me in the eye and said:"Thank you for being honest son. Lets' fix the hose and then you can move it!"
Thanks Dad
Dan

I worked at the Lacey Drive-in theater in the 1950's. I remember De delivering hot dog buns in the morning, and he always seemed like a genuinely nice man.

I remember De and Mae very well from my years as a college student at Saint Martin's, when I often visited the Flavor Nook. They were always kind and generous people, highly regarded by the SMC community.

You are now at home with the Lord and your dear Mae. We thank God for the time we had you with us here on earth. We have lots of good memories and fun times together. I especially thank you both for the outreach you showed me when I also lost my dear Jim and daughter, Linda. I, too, look forward to the time when we will all be together again. What a celebration we will have.
To your children and grandchildren, God in His infinite Wisdom, has taken Dad and Grandpa home. I can see him and Grandma together, their arms around each other, loving and at peace.
