Obituary of Lola E. Smith

Lola Elaine Smith, 81, of Olympia died August 7, 2005 at her home after a battle with lung cancer. She was born to Pearl & Alvah Gillam on December 9, 1923 in Prineville, Oregon. She grew up in Prineville and moved to Portland in her 20’s. She married George Dan Smith on August 21, 1949 in Portland, Oregon. She and her husband moved several times before settling down in Olympia for the last 40 years. Lola’s spirit lives on within her daughters and sons-in-law, Vesta & Steve Myers of Victorville, California and Silvia & Jeff McClung of Browns Point, Washington; her only grandchild, Daniel Jeffrey McClung, (17 months old) who was “the light of her life.” Lola served in the Navy in World War II. Lola was a bookkeeper, owned and operated her own pre-school and home daycare. She enjoyed bird watching, reading, photography, quilting, knitting, rock hounding, bridge and camping. She was active in Early Christian Education at the United Churches, Beta Sigma Phi, Black Hills Audubon Society, Camp Fire Girls and Stephen Ministries. A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2005 at the United Churches, 110 11th Ave. S.E., Olympia. A graveside service will be held in Prineville, Oregon on Sunday, August 14, 2005 at Juniper Haven Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Lola’s name to Black Hills Audubon Society or to the Early Christian Education with United Churches.
