Obituary of Alice A. Simmonds

Alice A. “Sally” Simmonds, 87, died March 7, 2006 at Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia. She was the youngest of ten children, born to George and Rebecca (Clark) Willows on April 8, 1918 in Edmunds, North Dakota. Sally moved to Washington State in 1940. On March 7, 1947 in Olympia, she married Earl L. Simmonds, Sr., he died in 1967. Mrs. Simmonds had worked for Western Plywood Mill in Olympia for 7 years and retired from the United States Post Office in 1983, where she had been a rural route carrier in Olympia for 21 years. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and NARFE. She loved planting flowers. Survivors include 2 sons, Earl L. (Barbara) Simmonds, Jr. of Lebanon, Oregon and Terry R. (Helen) Simmonds of Olympia; three granddaughters, Leslie (Ray) Cleveland of Murrieta, Calif., Natalie (Lane) Taylor of Pleasant Grove, Utah and Wendy (Guy) Ploegman of Olympia; two grandsons, Matt and Mark Simmonds both of Olympia; 2 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Masonic Center, 521 North St. SE, Tumwater, with the graveside service following at Odd Fellows Memorial Park. A gathering for family and friends will follow at Casa Madrona, 3948 Martin Way, Olympia. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. The family expresses a special thank you to Dr. Edward Jansen and the wonderful staff of Providence Mother Joseph Care Center.
