Obituary of Nellie Irene Schwartz

Visitation wil take place prior to service time Nellie Irene Schwartz was born January 23, 1913 in Hagerman, Idaho to Frank and Gertrude Dolby. In 1952 Nellie married Clyde Schwartz, who preceded her in death. Survived by her only child, Carol Duffy (Joe); 7 grandchildren, Deb Waldherr (Gary), Cathy Thielen (Tim), Joe Duffy, Jr. (Karen), Wade Duffy (Anne), Kelly Duffy (Cambria), Nellie Reid (Kevin), Richard Duffy (Peggy Sue); 13 great grandchildren, Amy, Ann, Morgan, Carol, Julie, Joshua, Brendan, Zachary, Gabriel, A J, Emily, Lindsay, Derek; 4 great-great grandchildren, Jordan, Nyesha, Tori, Cameron; and her brother, Frank Dolby, of Olympia. The family moved to Olympia in 1927 from Salem, Oregon and Nellie attended Olympia High School and graduated in 1930. As a young woman she sang and played the piano for the then Liberty Theatre (now Washington Center for the Performing Arts) for the silent films and during intermissions. Nellie did office work and in the last 30 years before her retirement she worked for the Washington State Dept of Retirement. Gardening, playing bridge and going to Reno and were just a few of her many interests. Nellie was a long time member and past president of the Ladies Eagles. Runners participating in Capital City Marathon and Half-marathon since early 1980’s may remember seeing Nellie and her neighbor standing on Yelm Highway and Boulevard Rd. handing out baggies with ice cubes to the runners. What a life saver they were.
