Obituary of Joseph Lawrence McRea

none Joseph Lawrence McRea, Jr., 82, a resident of Shelton since 2002, died at Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, November 7, 2005. He was born November 19, 1922 in New York City, NY to Joseph Lawrence and Bertha Emlie (Ronner) McRea. Mr. McRea was a native of the Bronx, New York City before pioneering westward to Shelton in 1975. He had lived in Shelton and the Olympia area since then, except for a stay in Scottsdale, Arizona from 1998-2000 for some fun in the sun. Mr. McRea served in the United States Marine Corp as a Radar Equipment Operator from August 25, 1942 to December 15, 1946. He married Muriel E. Mulhern on August 21, 1948 in New York City. They celebrated 57 years together last summer at the Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center where they were both living. He was a career Fireman for the N.Y.C.F.D. for 18 years. He had also owned a delivery service and was a U.S.P.S. Mail Carrier in New York City. In Shelton he was also a U.S.P.S. Mail Carrier and held various other jobs locally. Mr. McRea was devoted to his family, loved the outdoors and going camping. He liked to make life interesting by finding “short cuts” to places which always turned out to be longer. He loved to clown around and make people happy. He is survived by his wife Muriel at the Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center; son Matthew and his wife, Sheliah and family of Olympia; daughter, Lorraine of Shelton; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren of Olympia and in Arizona. A memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 14 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Shelton. Private Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Memorial contributions are suggested to a Catholic Charity of your choosing.
