Gene Johnson

Obituary of Gene Johnson

Eugene R Johnson Eugene R Johnson was born in St Paul, Minnesota, on November 9, 1931 to Otto and Hazel (Dunn) Johnson. He became a certified public accountant after graduating from the University of Minnesota. He worked and then became a partner with the CPA firm, Peterson Sullivan and company for most of his 39-year career. He retired in 1992. Gene and his first wife, Flora (Jones), were married in 1951, and had three daughters, Pamela Johnson, Rebecca Inman, and Mindy LaBorn. In 1979, Gene married Carolyn (nee Maas) and added her children to his family, Leanne Milligan, Laurie Beier, and Steve Yantzer. Son- and daughter-in-laws include Marvin LaBorn, Chuck Milligan, Steve Beier, and Lynn Yantzer. Grandchildren include: Justin Mitchell, Christa Inman, Andy Inman, Sarah Echo, Lisa LaBorn, Randy LaBorn, Michelle LaBorn, Kaitlyn LaBorn, Aaron Milligan, Kelsey Milligan, Shelby Beier, Eric Beier, Matthew Yantzer, and Nicole Yantzer. Great grandchildren include: Madison Ruter, Elizabeth Echo, and Samara Heinemann (deceased). Gene and Carolyn lived in Seattle for many years and became avid boaters. They were active members of the Seattle Yacht Club and the Rainier Yacht Club. After retirement, the couple lived half the year in Seattle, Washington (when not boating) and the other half in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. A few years ago, they purchased a home on the shore of Lake Limerick, north of Shelton, for their Washington residence. Other than out boating, Lake Limerick was Gene’s favorite place to be. Gene dealt with cancer for many years before his death. The cancer, complicated by respiratory issues, brought his final passing. Gene died in Olympia, Washington, surrounded by members of his family. Cancer also claimed Gene’s great granddaughter, Samara Gene Heinemann (August 9, 2008 – June 19, 2009), just a month before Gene’s death. A celebration of both their lives is being held beginning at 1 pm, August 9, at the cabin on Lake Limerick, 51 E Tregaron, Shelton, WA, and the neighboring park. We will have a short ceremony outside the cabin, followed by an informal picnic/potluck at the park at the end of the road, where we will share food, drink, music, and memories. Children are very welcome and dress should be appropriate for the outdoors.
