Obituary of Robert Hayes

Robert (Bob) Hayes, (82) loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, died peacefully on May 26, 2005, surrounded by his adult children and grandchildren. True to the values Bob embraced in life, he provided a role model for putting your family and loved ones first. He easily made friends and would stroll his apartment complex on his little scooter providing a smile and a wave to many acquaintances. He was a devoted husband to his wife JoAnn, who preceded him in death on April 10, 2006. Bob was born on October 5, 1923, in Cherokee, Okalahoma. He was a veteran of the United States Air force, worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, and upon retirement moved to Lacey, Washington to be near family. Bob later moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma where he and his wife JoAnn were dedicated volunteers at the local senior center and delivered meals on wheels to senior citizens. Bob recently moved to Olympia, Washington to be near family during his and his wife’s illness. He was preceded in death by parents George Hayes and Catherine Steffen, three brothers and one sister. Bob is survived by daughter(s) Barbara Garrett of Sand Springs, OK, Debbie Yantis of Olympia, WA, Crystal Stutz of Killeen, Texas, son(s) Bill Hayes of Broken Arrow, OK, Garry Hayes of Ponca City, OK, Terry Yager of Lake Hovasu City Arizona; sister Anna Wade of Ft. Scott, KS and brother Carl Hayes of Cherokee, OK. Bob is also survived by 15 grand children and seven great grandchildren. A Memorial services will be held at 1:00 o'clock on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the home of George and Betty Yantis, 1855 Yantis St., Olympia, WA, 98502. A memorial service is also pending in Cherokee, Oklahoma.
