Obituary of Shirley Jean Erickson

none Shirley Jean Erickson, 74, a long time resident of Olympia, Washington, passed away on Saturday, January 15th, 2005 at St. Peters Hospital, of multiple causes. Shirley Jean was born in Springville, Utah on June 10, 1930 to Thomas William Jones and Birdie Riches Jones. Shirley’s surviving siblings are Thomas Raymond Jones of Tucson, Arizona; Kenneth Paul Jones of Dallas, Texas; Fred William Jones of Rio Linda, California; David Lester Jones of Lewiston, Idaho; Calvin Kent Jones of Cowley, Wyoming; and Peggy Lynn Oakden of Silverdale, Washington. Her parents and a younger sister, Shirley Marie Jones, preceded her in death. Shirley was first married to Edwin Wesley Dalton and they had three children, Patricia, Kathy and Edward. Shirley married Eskel Edward Erickson, August 5, 1967 in Post Falls, Idaho, and was married for 37 years. Eskel’s parents were Erik William Erickson and Sanna Carolina Nylund of Finland. Shirley Jean was referred to as Shirley, Jean, Jeannie, and “Gumbie” to those friends, family, and grandchildren who knew and loved her. She was a wonderful mother to: Patricia Jean McCall of Puyallup, Washington; Kathy Ann Fellows of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Edward William Dalton of Port Orchard, Washington. Shirley was a grandmother to twelve, who include: Clifford Wilson, Tanya Buhl, Amy and Adam Broome, Benjamin, John, and Miriam Fellows, Jay and Jessica Munger, Charlie, Brianna and Blake Dalton. She was also great-grandmother of six, who include: Breanna James-Knight, Madison, Makenna, and Kamryn Buhl, Brice Mechling and Daniel Fellows. Shirley’s education included classes at Olympic Technical Community College in accounting and money management. She also attended the Barbazon Beauty College in Utah and classes in Centralia, Washington. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was active as much as her health would allow her to be. She was also an active member of Capital Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Shirley worked as a waitress in Alaska and Washington. She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and loving mother. She held various Church callings which included being the Genealogical Extraction Program Coordinator, Ward Bulletin Specialist and she especially loved teaching the children in Primary. She was a great gardener and had an exceptional green thumb for growing beautiful plants and flowers. She kept her mind active with daily challenges with crossword puzzles, and was at the expert level. She was an exceptional cook, and everyone who visited was offered something, whether or not they were going to be there long enough to eat. She was also adept at crochet and tatting. She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed. She will be forever in our hearts.
