Obituary of Sue Kemp Hatch

Sue Kemp Hatch, 84, passed away November 6, 2017 with her loving family at her bedside at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. She was born in Balch, Arkansas. After obtaining an Associate’s Degree from Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas, she married William “Bill” Spradling and eventually moved to The Dalles, Oregon. Sue and Bill were raising two sons and two daughters when Bill was unfortunately killed in an industrial accident. In November 1967 in The Dalles, Sue met Larry Hatch who was just returning from his first tour of duty in Vietnam. They dated for a very short time (love at first site) and were married January 5, 1968. They were very much looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this coming January. Sue lived a military life for 21 years and loved having lived in Germany, Hawaii, Presidio of San Francisco and many other assignments throughout the United States. Sue and Larry had a daughter and a son along their journey. She was always busy, involved in PTA activities, serving on the Sausalito, California District School Board, while still devoting time to her children whom she loved very dearly. She was very proud to see them develop into adults and go off and have families of their own, resulting in 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Sue and Larry settled in Olympia, Washington in 1983. She was an Assistant Manager at the Fort Lewis Thrift Shop for several years and was an American Greeting Cards distributor. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association since 1984, where she held numerous Chapter positions. She was nominated Woman of the Year and represented the Olympia Charter Chapter at the National Convention in New York City in 1985. Sue had a smile and a laughter that everyone remembers. Her heart of gold always put others ahead of herself. She devoted her life to her family and God. She attended Temple Baptist Church in Lacey, WA, and she enjoyed evening bible study with friends to continue building her faith. She believed in the scriptures and her God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. She was a loving wife and mother. She will be missed terribly. She is survived by her husband, Larry; brother, Howard; sister, Glenda; sons, Michael, Bill and Larry; and daughters Teresa, Tina, Tami, Val’ee, Cari and Gail. Please leave memories of Sue or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
