Obituary of Stephen A. Charak

Stephen A. Charak 4/11/53 – 12/18/04 Steve, a long-time Olympia resident, died at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago to Lois and Gerry Charak, and was married to Katie Charak. Steve earned his Bachelor’s degree from The Evergreen State College, and recently received his Master of Arts degree from Antioch University. He was devoted to his family and friends, and was very active in the community. An author and teacher, Steve was founder and publisher of Young Voices magazine and conducted children’s writing workshops. He enjoyed the Mariners, his music, Starbucks, marathon running, reading, and his book club. Steve is survived by his wife, Katie, his father, Gerry, step-mother, Marion, sister Robin, and brothers, Stuart (Toni) and Craig (Wendy). Also surviving are step-children, John (Ana) Farrow and Meagan (Mike) Metzger; grandchildren, Ethan, Courtney, Katie, and Josh; nephews, Tony and Danny Brown, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
