Leighton Lee Carr

Obituary of Leighton H. Lee Carr

Leighton H. (Lee) Carr passed away unexpectedly at his home in Rochester, early Monday morning, Feb. 6. He leaves behind the three loves of his life; his wife of 32 years, Christine Ann (Chris), and his daughters, Allison Diane and Lindsey Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen L. and Leslie (Les) Carr. Lee was welcomed into the world on June 30, 1949, in Tacoma, Washington and lived most of his life in Puyallup. He was a 1967 graduate of Puyallup High, attended TCC and went on to graduate from Bates College. He began working in 1972 as an auto mechanic for Dick Dawson’s Arco at the Port of Tacoma, and worked there for over 20 years. He also worked for Port of Tacoma Shell, before taking a job as the Used Car Technician and later a Line Technician at Hiatt Pontiac-GMC in Tacoma. In 1994, Lee began work for Hulbert Cadillac in Olympia, where he spent 6 years working with a group of people who felt like a second family. He continued to work at the same location after the company was purchased in 2000. Lee was most at home in the great outdoors and spent a lot of time just enjoying and finding new places to see in Washington and Oregon. He loved bird watching, hunting elk (with binoculars) and just spending time in the woods or at the beach. Three years ago, he and Chris took up cycling and were often seen on the local Thurston County trails or scouring maps to plan their next ride. The family currently lives in Rochester where Lee finally found the perfect camping spot right in his own backyard. Family and friends are invited to come and celebrate Lee’s life Saturday, February 11 from 11-2 p.m. at Kennydell Park, 6745 Fairview Rd. SW, Tumwater. Comfortable and casual dress is required. An account for the Carr Family has been setup at Washington Mutual, or donations may be made in his name to NPR.
