Gayle had such a tremendous influence on those of us who posted with her in our online community. She was our favorite poster, and her humor and wit will be sorely missed. We are so sorry that she was taken so early, and want her family to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve her loss. God bless.

You don't know me but I'm part of an online community Gayle was active in. To us she was "Olygal" and she brought a unique voice to our online discussions. She introduced us to geoducks and apricot ale, while presenting the benefits of amphibian relationships and disparaging those who destroyed the natural world for profit.
In our world people come for awhile and once they have provided or received all they need to will vanish with only an occasional "I wonder whatever happened to...?" But for the last few months rarely a post went by that people did not wonder where she had gone and when she was coming back - a testament to the affect her writings had on our community.
She will be greatly missed and I think you might be surprised at how many lives she impacted. From those of us that knew her in the blogsphere our deepest sympathies are with you and we know you have suffered a great loss. We all have.

Oh Gayle, our precious friend. I cannot fathom how someone so full of life could pass from us so swiftly. I was inspired by your art and the fierce passion that you threw into everything you spent your time on. Some people drive, but you zoomed. Some people walk, but you scampered. Your laugh was wonderful, and you used it often. You called yourself a simple farm girl, but your simplicity was wrapped in elegance and wisdom. You knew what mattered. I have tried and tried to imagine how to honor you in just a few words. The best I can say is that you left every thing, every place and every person you found in better shape than when you discovered them.

A friend called last night and told us of Gayle’s passing. We talked for quite a while about our memories of Scott, Gayle, and Jacob. It became clear that they are like a part of our family. Like a circle that is gathered around holding us together, and then we realized that Gayle was no longer in the circle. How can that space possible be filled?
As we remember, Gayle was shy, but had a little twinkle in her eye, and a warm smile. She could light up a room. The mysterious way about her caught us off guard at first; it took us awhile to realize that it was her creative nature.
We took a moment last night and went to her website. There were cutouts Gayle dolls, and more dolls to cutout. I thought no way you’d catch me dressing up paper dolls, and then I caught a glimpse of the number of people that didn’t feel silly at all dressing up paper dolls, and I know why, because they are quite artistic, and beautiful.
Please accept our condolences.

I was shocked and saddened when I heard about Gayle. She was funny, creative and an advocate for protection of the environment and the future of our children's world. It was always a pleasure and entertaining to talk with her. I am including a quote she sent to me. I will miss her.
"The battle we have fought, and are still fighting for the forests is a part of the eternal conflict between right and wrong... So we must count on watching and striving for these trees, and should always be glad to find anything so surely good and noble to strive for."~John Muir

Gayle is the most boisterous, vivacious person I have known. She is hands down the best letter to the editor writer in our time. In whatever space her light now shines, she is regaling them with her laughter, her energy, and her generosity.

Seashells remind us that every passing life leaves something beautiful behind. May beauty live on in your memories and bring you peace. Thank you, Gayle, for the homemade Christmas cards and the many waves and smiles we exchanged as you walked Jake home from the bus stop.

Gayle was genuine, authentic, artistic and passionate, a creater of clever homemade holiday cards. But, what I remember most: Gayle in her kayak on the bay, reclining back, her legs draped over the sides of her boat as she drifted in the afternoon calm. I wish that same peace for all who mourn for her now.

Gayle was special. I just loved being around her because I always learned something. She gave me goeducks, sea weed salad, wonderful interesting poppy seeds that grew beautifully and my deer loved them as much as I. She was just fun to be around, very smart and pretty. Vivacious and funny. We will all miss her. Anne

As a longtime land use watchdog and advocate I was delighted when Gayle came on the scene. Her rare combination of wit, wisdom and boundless energy made it feel as the the odds suddenly shifted in favor of normally outgunned citizens.
In Gayle I thought the Steamboat Island area had found a new North Star, from which compasses could be set. Little did I know she instead was a comet, whose radiance was all too shortlived.
Thank you Gayle for lighting up our lives.

It's so hard to put into words how very much Gayle will be missed. Her quick wit, sense of humor, intelligence, her commitment to this neighborhood and on a grander scale, all of Thurston County. Gayle was a person who brought so much life to every event she attended and so much introspect to every subject she tackled, whether in private or publicly. I will miss her lovingly crafted, limited edition, 100% recycled Christmas cards she managed to sneak into my mailbox every season and I'll miss her vision for a better world. Gone too soon...much too soon.
