Obituary of Hannah M. Walling

Hannah, 86, passed away February 14, 2014, in Olympia, Washington. She was born September 3, 1927 to Sanasar and Sophia Gorakian in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth E. Walling; son, Tim (Gloria) Walling; daughters, Janice (Steve) Nielson of Olympia, Linda (Joe) West of Tenino, Paula (Steve) Daniels of the Seattle area; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Hannah and Ken, whom she called Wally, were deeply in love and devoted to one another. They lived in Rhode Island and Virginia, and then settled in Olympia after his retirement from the Navy in 1966. Her days were spent loving and caring for her husband and children. As time passed, Hannah was employed by Morrow’s Nut House, a candy store at Capital Mall. She worked there for over ten years before retiring and moving to sunny Las Vegas. Hannah and Ken enjoyed their time in Vegas with the pools, a nearby golf course, visits with extended family, new friends, and, of course, an occasional trip to a casino. Family was always important to Hannah, especially her children and grandchildren, who loved her dearly and had fond memories of her time with them, among them, candy from the candy store and trips to Las Vegas. Upon their return to Washington from Nevada in 2004, Hannah and Ken lived in Tenino and settled into a peaceful time of reconnecting on a regular basis with their children and grandchildren. In more recent years, they moved to Olympics West Retirement Inn in Tumwater where they participated in the many activities offered. Her favorites were the bus trips to the tulip fields, Mt. Rainier and the beach, as well as to a local casino. They made new friends and had countless hours together enjoying coffee and fireside chats. Illness and disease tried to rob Hannah of her memory but she held on to her love for family and a good sense of humor. While she is already deeply missed, her family is thankful for the relief of pain and the peace they know is now hers. Donations in her name may be made to The Hampton Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, Resident Fund, 1400 Trosper Rd. SW, Tumwater WA 98512.
